Award-winning writer Christine Dwyer Hickey gives a talk about her novel 'The Narrow Land' about Edward Hopper (1882-1967), who was an American realist painter and printmaker. He is one of America's most renowned artists and known for his skill in depicting modern American life and landscapes.


About the speaker

Christine Dwyer Hickey was born in Dublin and is a novelist and short story writer. Her work has been widely translated into European and Arabic languages. She is an elected member of Aosdana, the Irish academy of arts. Her novel The Narrow Land (2019) went on to win two major prizes in the year 2020 – the Walter Scott Prize for Literary Fiction and the inaugural Dalkey Literary Award. The year 2020 also saw her novel Tatty (2004) chosen as UNESCOs Dublin One City One Book. It was also shortlisted for Irish Novel of The Year 2005 and nominated for The Orange Prize as it was known then and was listed as one of the 50 Irish Novels of the Decade.
