BLOOMSDAY IN MONACO

Join us for our much-loved, annual event in Monaco - a not-to-be-missed cultural celebration of Joyce's modernist masterpiece.

Enjoy a lovely literary afternoon for Bloomsday. We start at 2.15pm at the Princess Grace Irish Library, followed by a stroll through Monaco ville on the Rock (Le Rocher) to get to the gardens (Jardins St Martin). As is our tradition, performances by the talented actors from the Monaco-Ireland Arts Society, will entertain us with dramatic readings from Ulysses by the renowned Irish writer, James Joyce.

You can join in the spirit of the occasion by wearing a hat.

We end the event at the library for some refreshments around 4pm.

Note the library will be closed when we are outside.

You will learn about Ulysses, published in 1922 by American ex-pat Sylvia Beach in Paris, who met Joyce at a party in the French capital.

  • Join us at the library from 2.15pm
  • Event starts at 2.30pm at the library with music from our balcony and then readings at ground level in the entrance to the building.
  • Place St Nicolas (fountain)
  • Gardens - Jardins St Martin (various locations)
  • Back at the library: refreshments around 4pm

Although we start in the Irish library, the main part of the event is in the gardens (Jardins St Martin) on the Rock - those with mobility problems may find the steep walking difficult. We also advise that you wear a hat and bring water to drink as it can get hot walking outside. After the readings we will offer refreshments at the library around 4pm.

Note: the library will be closed while we are outside on The Rock (Le Rocher).
